Heerre’s the beef!
Posted by michellemoquin on June 5th, 2008
As I mentioned we picked up our beef the other day. In case some of you don’t recall me mentioning, we ordered a ’split half’ cow from a local farm that raises grassfed beef and sells only direct to the public. Morris farms cows have been grassfed since birth and have only lived roaming the farmland eating fresh grass it’s entire life. A truly ‘happy cow’.
I was so excited to pick up beef at the designated spot in Berkeley. Our good friend Gin and Rich met me there as we were splitting the ‘half split’ with them. I got the chance to meet Joe, the owner of the farm; definitely a cowboy, sporting the traditional hat, boots, and all…wearing a big smile. He was just as delightful to meet in person as he was when I spoke to him on the phone a few months back. I asked him how the cows were this year. In ‘meat’ talk that meant, ‘Was there enough grass to fatten them up to a healthy size?’ Joe said the butcher was extremely happy. I was too, not that I would know the difference but I trusted he knew his stuff.
The meat was delivered freshly frozen in neatly packed boxes in a big semi. 42 lbs of ground beef and 44 lbs of every cut you could imagine in the deepest reddest color of fresh meat I have ever seen, all packaged and ready to store in the freezer. At $6.30/lb it is the deal anyone would be crazy not to take advantage of. We split our ‘half split’ drooling over the anticipation of what it was going to taste like, planning our next gathering together in celebration of discovering this wonderful new way to enjoy the beef.
As I drove home I felt so grateful that I could finally start eating meat again and not feel guilty knowing that these cows were given the best humane lives before their lives were taken to nourish and feed me. These cows were raised living strictly off the grass of the land, no grains at all for these well-taken care of cows. They are left free to roam as they please, their entire lives moving from acre to acre eating their way across the farmlands. As the land and the animals are taken care of in a holistic approach, the result is native grasses and trees are expanding on the farm land and creeks are becoming healthy and cleaner. By supporting this farm I / we are supporting the environment, not contributing to destroying the ozone layer through methane gasses and the production of unhealthy and downed cows raised in factory farms. Enough said on that. Today’s write is bragging about Morris and their cows, not the disasters of factory farming.
When I got home I excitedly put away all of the beef in our freezer examining each cut as I placed it gently inside. I left out 2 lbs of ground beef - We were going to make burgers as soon as they thawed!
Last night was the night. Just as I expected the meat had thawed. I opened one package of the ground beef seasoned it with a little S & P and carefully formed them into 2 perfect burgers ready for the grill. I whipped up a small salad of chopped celery and crispy Persian cucumbers and sides of thinly sliced Roma tomatoes topped with fresh mozzarella, basil and my favorite olive oil. I headed outside to where the burgers were slow cooking, a little tip from Morris. Grassfed beef needs to be cooked slowly, the flame never touching the meat. It should not be cooked well done, and you’ve really screwed a good piece of meat if you burn it ever!…medium rare or rare is the best for this meat so if you are a well-done kind of beef eater, you need to try something new.
Within 15 minutes the burgers were done, the cheese perfectly melted on top. We sandwiched them between Rudi’s organic buns, threw on minimal condiments…I wanted to taste this meat…and dove in. My mouth was happy! Doug cooked it perfectly. Not only was it medium rare how I like it, the texture of the beef was like no other….it was first of all very juicy and it held together and didn’t shrink from the cooking…but it was the texture mixed in with the fresh taste…I can’t really describe it but it was smoother and less chunky if that makes sense and the taste..well I don’t know how to describe it either…ya know, whatever. All I can say was that it was simple delicious and that is was the best burgers we have ever had bar none. We both agreed on that. We can’t wait to sample the rest of the cuts.

It’s another beautiful day, which means another beautiful evening for enjoying another beautiful burger.

Hello Doug: Yeah I thought that was kind of funny that there were no comments. I meant to add this video yesterday because it felt so apropos considering the content yesterday…but I forgot nad now I can’t find it….Oh well…it is a pretty scary clip and even more of a reason why bulletproof clothing could be needed for the everyday person (?) What is this world coming to? Hmmm…Oh Btw, did I mention how great the burger was last night? :)
Hi anon: I missed your comment last week - sorry, I rarely visit my archives. Hopefully, you’ll get the opportunity to come on over to this blog and visit. Thanks for your open and honest comments in regards the movie, ‘Into the wild’. I know what you mean by wanting to ‘free’ yourself from materialism and attachment, detaching yourself from the ‘bondage of society’. Perhaps you can do part of it as you stated. Lately on this blog, freeing ourselves of just what you mentioned has been big in our lives. I will speak for myself and say purging has been so liberating for me; the less I have the more I feel light and less bogged down. I feel like I can think clearer and I actually appreciate the things that I have more so because I am using them more; nothing left here that doesn’t have a use. I also don’t have to rummage through the mess to get to what I really want to ’see’. Clearing the clutter unclogs the clutter in my mind too…unnecessary thoughts and identities…another areas I am trying to purge :)
Hi Adam: How’s it going? We of course welcome AH with open arms. I hope that we can teach him as much as I am sure he will teach us.
Hi Howie: I know what you mean. I know that I make ‘light and fun’ on of the subject of armored clothing, but it is truly scary that this world has come to that.
In regards to Madaline, I do not think of her as ’saint madaline.’ Where did that come from? Do I think that she has some pretty good ideas beside the killing route? Yes, I do, but I am also open to hearing some other ideas if anyone out there has any to contribute. Do you have any? Perhaps Carr can give some advice on how to turn this messed up world around?
Hi Madaline: I know what you mean…fashion is fun and being a girl, I too like being oogled especially by my special guy.
Hey readers….So Obama is on the ticket. I am delighted. I was listening to the Ronn Owens show on KGO yesterday and a guy emailed in the same question that I asked Doug the other day, ‘What if Hillary decides to run as an Independent?’ Ronn said, “I only have one word: McCain.” I added to that…I have four words: ‘McCain, and we’re screwed.’ Something to think about. For you McCain fans…just my opinion.
Have a cool day…
Gratefully your blog host,
michelle ?

Hi Michelle,
sounds excellent, I haven’t had beef since I can’t remember when, kind of got off it in Sg, they import mostly Aussie and NZ beef and it’s not to my liking, thought I’d be eating lots of USDA upon return but it hasn’t happened for me yet…I’m way into good seafood now : )
Howie, Howie, Howie, wherever did you get the idea that I thought that highly of Madaline? I simply expressed my agreement with her talking points re: her voting comment. I have since started my series but strayed (as is my perogative) after researching what I think is important, the historical aspect, digressing into alphas male and female who historically and the ‘top dogs’ and I will get to women in power and voting 08 when I think it pulls together.
I truly cannot stand all the male/female pitting of ‘who’s got the power’ (Madaline and the girls aside) when I know both sexes do, and I will cover it more clearly with my two word assessment, comes down to two words as far as my research now goes, which has always been my contention, and they are ‘ability’ and more importantly ‘motivation’ if you read my blog great, you’ll catch it with all my own fun digressions thrown in along with comments to Ed, my self appointed ‘armchair therapist’ though I hope to God/CARR he’s over it now : )
Also, wanted to add that I appreciated reading your mazing disclosure re: Israel. ‘War is hell’ would make a poignant new bumpersticker, I’d like to market that one for you. I may have an FL road trip later this summer, will keep you posted, if you’re not in flight, it would be great to meet you.
anonz, and it seems you are MIA sweet pea, but when you tune in, just wanted to say a few things: first, thanks for the weave a thought compliment. And second, yes the porn opportunists are totally pissing me off, makes me sick too bc they’ve zoned in on my blog entry about the stats re: women…I don’t want to even use the words here bc they’ll probably try doing ’site backtracks’ to M’s blog if I do. A total bummer to me.
And a q for you: if you don’t think giving $’s to worthy causes is the answer, then what, in your opinion, is? Maybe you could start a true ‘Independent’ party? We could use a new playing field, the Dem’s and Repub’s system is old and tired. It’s just a thought since you could run for something and probably win : )

Oh yeah, Howie, also I think I might’ve written (might’ve, I did. hahaha) that I think Madaline should run for high office back a bit, you may have misconstrued that as well (St. Madaline status). I was just thinking if her new intellectual powers could be focused and channeled through a ‘Zen’ filter i.e. a more diplo approach, well, then I would certainly see her as a female contender in politics at some level, lots of variables to clean up of course, but why not? I prefer to believe that all the ‘I’m an alien now’ talk is her youngish way of handling and adjusting to her new found powers.
I am sorry that at times she’s pinpointed you and/or Al for a ‘Mad Madaline’ verbal spewage just cause you’re a man: )
Madaline, please don’t beat me up over the above statements. I only wish you the best and best usage of any powers you may have gained during your travels.
Michelle, re: your comment on my blog. alpha - non-alpha no one is better than the other, same as the sexes as far as I’m concerned. I hate labels also but I am what I am : ) and it’s clear I have always been an alpha. I would say you fly under the radar, you have female ‘clout’ persuasion but it’s done in such a low key manner I wouldn’t bother playing with a label, why bother?
In so far as my blog entries, throughout history it seems that all the movers and shakers had the alpha qualities. It’s not better but they are usually ‘doers’ and yes, I know several very alpha females and love them all.
I have met a few that I took an instant dislike to but I think that was more bc they were just snooty, bitchy and playing that entitlement game, which I have a low level of tolerance for. get real or get the f**k out! If you ever overhear me ask an obvious alpha female if she knows where the Ladies room is, it means I want to get the f**k away from her asap! Or maybe I just have to pee, you’d have to call it…hahaha…
It is gorgeous down here today, volleyball tourney this weekend is setting up and there’s just male beefcake and female Amazon posers everywhere, I’m petite compared to these chicks, they’d kick my freakin’ ass, hahaha…
In fact, I think one of them is coming over to do that now, I’m using my decrepit and super slow laptop, searching for a new one now on eBay, cannot wait lah.
I love people watching : ) alpha or not, pretty people or not.

Michelle, I am sorry but I do not have enough interest in yesterday’s post. I just think that the World is showing its soft, white, underbelly when there are Fashion Shows for Women’s Armored Clothing. It shows the state of Society - that Women or Men need Clothing to look their best and help live through a barrage of bullets from some enemy - real or imaginary.
This Clothing should be sold at Auto Shows where you can have your Rolls Royce Amored and bullet-proofed. Then the Fashion Show can begin, showing all the latest in Bullet-Proof Vests and Body Armor. It can end with a Hand Gun Show - especially the Gold-Plated ones. Next to a diamond, they are a Girl’s best friend.
MICHELLE, I really have no interest in buying a cut-up cow to keep in my extra freezer. Usually this is done by Yuppies who have the extra cash to purchase a spare freezer and fill it with beef. Unfortunately I do not have either of these requirements.
MADALINE, recently, you have been appointed ‘Saint Madaline’. I do not know exactly how it occurred but it did happen, Michelle (your Commander), Zen Lill (your Crewmate and Girlz), and I don’t know how many others consider your words as Gospel.
You have gone on a 2-month venture into Outer Space with Azza and have been returned here to Earth, the Planet you will not admit coming from. You were born and raised here, you went to school here and Married here - yet you killed all those who you were upset by - like a Child during a tantrum. You had at least s 30-day rest stop here which turned out to be a bit longer
You wanted to try and Murder all the Men of this World as well. You didn’t obey your Commander Michelle, or pay attention to Zen Lill who is of equal rank. You took off like a cyclone and didn’t think about the destruction and pain you were causing to the Human Population - especially Men.
Did you ever think that Carr might like you to ask permission to vandalize his Planet and its occupants? Perhaps he is found here because the Earth, which he created, brings him pleasure. In that case your disregard for anyone but yourself (you had to Vent) has reached the Creator himself?
I will make it my personal crusade to put an end to beings with your personality traits. I do have some influence on Carr. He will do what he feels is correct, but your annihilation and those who follow you may be a good start. I would like for you to never have existed since you claim you are not nor have ever been Human. Why don’t you return to the Universe where you were born an Alien. I know this place does not exist.
When your warped ideas have been forgotten, the TAO may continue with their work without any problems from Carr. He does not waste his time - until he is challenged.
Carr wants the TAO to succeed in their escape from the Web. He wants me to go on a Voyage with Commander Azza and be Crew under her direction. Only Tal and his helpers Brains will get things going. I know they have made some basic progress and have even tried a dry run. They need to keep going. It will take time.
I am sick and tired of being pointed to as ‘bad guy’ when I really have tried to live my entire life by the Karmic Code of “Do unto others as you would have them do to you”. I have always helped people in distress in their cars, or people without Bus Fare, or Hungry People. No one was watching - I did this for Karmic reasons.
I have also been chosen as Good Friend and Never ending Student of Carr (GOD). He has been my Mentor for about 30-yearsso far. Perhaps he sees some qualities in me that you or I are not capable of finding and keeps me alive and nearby because he cares about me and my well being. Perhaps he just likes me for my being Howie. My ailments will one day be something we joke about in the Future.
Presently, my one main care is the success of the TAO and Tal in particular. Will one or more of the TAO please keep communicating with me? I would like someone of the TAO to speak to or I will lose my Sanity. Can that be arranged? - How about Gleia and Zmiv? I miss all you guys.
ANONZ, do not really know where you are coming from. A couple of ‘The Girlz’ seem to like you. Perhaps you are handsome or something. This is not something I would be interested in. However, I wouldn’t mind not being the only Man on this blog who speaks his mind against Women’s mistakes - past and present - besides Al and myself.
For all I know, you may just want to get a little action from these enhanced Women. I can’t blame you? How can I know if we do not discuss this topic in the future without having to kiss ass to stay friendly with the blog women.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions and have the right to post them on the blog. So I do, even if it stirs up the water a bit.

I am truly amazed at the noticeable difference with this beef. Immediately one could tell the difference simply by seeing it in its clear packaging. The color is pure. There are no artificial colors or diluted coloring. It is blood red with no sugar fat content.
Normally I am not a rare hamburger kind of guy, however, this meat when slow cooked holds its own amazing taste. Having this burger without anything on it, excepting organic cheese, one can taste the difference in the first bite. It is without a doubt the best burger, and most healthy, that I have ever had in my life.
As our global food economy takes us farther and farther away from organic, local and heirloom foods it can become increasingly more difficult to find healthier means of eating. With this type of purchasing I know we will not go back. The pricepoint also makes it so much smarter to eat healthy without getting hormone induced grain fed meat that was locked up in caged environments throughout their lives. Studies have shown the inconsistencies, impurities, and damaging fat content with factory meats. With grain fed beef you can watch you meat shrink on the grill due to the sugar fat that drips away from the meats coming from the corn feed. Also, knowing that within the feed that many of these factory cows receive they are eating gypsum, cardboard and other garbage fillers, including other cow ingredients, it is no wonder why our society is increasingly obese and unhealthy.
So much of good health is an attitude and eating right this makes doing so affordable and easy. Although, we don’t eat much beef to begin with, if we do so we know that we will be enjoying a healthy cow that lived as good of a life that cow farming would allow in today’s society. I’m sold!!
