Political Party Poop

Posted by michellemoquin on June 9th, 2008

I watched the video of Clinton’s exit and I have to say that I was touched and a bit sad.  As much as she may not have been the best candidate, and as much as she may have some baggage, skeletons in her closet, and some questionable political actions, (What candidate doesn’t possess at least one of these?) I was still disappointed knowing that even if she won the Democratic ticket, she still would most likely not win the presidency. And having another republican in office, in my opinion,  would not be the best for this country. Why is it that the first time we have a woman running for president we judge her so much more than we have ever judged any man running for president? And we have voted in some ignoramuses: Our current president.

As much as I was routing for Obama not only because his chances of becoming the president seemed more probable running against McCain, but I really think he would be a great president. However, in my heart I dreamed of all the American women in this country taking a stand and supporting her.  I had a vision of all the American women pulling together and making this happen; an action that has never occurred in history, at least when it comes to holding a high political position, and really using the power that we women have in numbers. Women would then feel what it was like to truly have power through female camaraderie - it inspires me and I will continue to hope, dream and support women to prevail in political positions.

That being said, I just have to mention that every time we get a republican president our National Debt  grows by the trillions…check out these stats:

  • The National Debt took over six years to rise from $5 trillion to $6 trillion during the Clinton administration. And President Clinton actually lowered debt by billions in his last two years in office just in time for President Bush to dramatically increase the debt.
  • On January 15th 2004, the Outstanding Public Debt jumped $13 billion to $7,001,852,607,623.35. This was the first time in history the U.S. National Debt surpassed the $7 trillion mark and came less than two years after the Debt first passed $6 trillion.

It gets worse:

  • On October 18th 2005, the Outstanding Public Debt rose to $8,003,897,406,911.24 — the first time it had risen above $8 trillion. Again, in less than 2 years.
  • The National Debt has continued to increase an average of $1.59 billion per day since September 28, 2007!

Thank you President Bush.

“The budget should be balanced; the treasury should be refilled; public debt should be reduced; and the arrogance of public officials should be controlled.”

 -Cicero. 106-43 B.C.

Not to mention the price of oil and gas which has more than doubled. (see article below) Thank you again President Bush. If you go back into the archives you will see that we were warned that there would be rising gas prices that would go  up to $6/gallon with oil going up to $150/barrel! We were asked if we wished more information on this situation, including possible ways to alleviate some of the shock, to let them know. Did anyone ever ask? I couldn’t find anything in my archives. So….

Earthling Girls:  What can we do? And tell us why is gas going up? Is this truly supply & demand or is someone manipulating it?  I have gotten emails that says stop buying gas for a day - I don’t think one day is going to make a difference nor are you going to get the majority of the public to do that anyway. Recently I got an email that said, just don’t buy gas from Exxon and Mobil - the two biggest companies.

With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas!  And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

How?  Since we all rely on our cars, we can’t just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here’s the idea: For the rest of this year, DON’T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL.

If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices.   If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

Your thoughts?

Then yesterday I received this:

Remember January 2001? Those were the good old days before George Bush and Dick Cheney took office. At the time, gas cost just  $1.87 a gallon! And now? $3? $3.50? Even four + dollars for a gallon of gas.

The cost of driving to work and flying to visit family keeps going up. Meanwhile, Exxon-Mobil made more profits last year than any corporation in human history.

It’s long past time for real energy independence in America and that starts by making sure oil companies pay their fair share.

Send a message to your Senator right now.

Energy prices won’t go down overnight. In the coming months we’re going to be barraged with gimmicks like a tax day holiday which may poll well but do nothing to deal with our real problem of over reliance on fossil fuels.

That’s because oil companies have all the money they need to make their case in Washington. They think that buying politicians will allow them to continue making record profits while we pay all the costs. Don’t let them tell you a windfall profits tax wont work. Remember, we’ve done it before and it raised billions of dollars in revenue.

The oil companies and lobbyists underestimate the power of a movement of people from all walks of life. This debate isn’t just about dollars and cents. It’s about real people whose lives are suffering while corporations continue to rake in record profits.

Tell your Senator to Take Action:

This message is just the beginning. Let’s put a human face on the sacrifices we’re all making. Together, we can magnify our individual struggles and make Congress pay attention.

Is this all we can do and will it help lower the prices? Or can you suggest something else?

Readers: Those stats alone should deter anyone from voting in a republican.  And yet the majority of  Americans still vote for a republican President - amazing and as I think the girls would say, ’stupid’.   Democratic Presidents have only held three terms since 1969:  Clinton twice and Carter once, compared to seven Republican terms. Are you readers aware of this? When will the American people ever learn?  Are we not looking at history and seeing how our country goes into deeper debt and prices rise EVERY TIME a republican  president holds office? My examples are just a few.

Voting for Obama is the way to go. Just last week the Democratic National committee adopted Obama’s policy of no longer accepting donations from federal lobbyists or PAC (political action committees).  ‘The change will make the party and the candidate have a consistent position.   Obama often says banning the donations is one way to help keep him free of the influence of Washington insiders.’ To me this is huge because without that monetary influence Obama will be working for us and in our best interests.

Any comments?

I’ve got one….I think I’ll ride my bike today :)

    Hi Michelle,
Overall I would agree, there was the dotcom fiasco under Bill’s watch amongst other things unsavory also but the fact that I thought he was a meathead (in addition to numerous Repub’s) doesn’t mean your estimations are incorrect.
Between all those Repubs and 3 Dem presidents not a one lessened our dependence on foreign oil. Pathetic for both parties.
I’m curious though, doesn’t Exxon and Mobil supply all other smaller oil co’s? So, would it really hit them where it hurts? I would like to hear a clear ‘action plan’ for change by Mr. Obama, hope it’s forthcoming soon. I’m leaning his way so far. Hill’s deal isn’t over yet either. McCain is not very impressive in his case so far, so I’m a true up for grabs Independent.
There are many like me (Independents) that overall think Obama’s too inexperienced and politically naive (I actually like this part). Since reading his book, published in 2006 I would agree to a certain extent, but I’m OK with him being naive/unP-savvy if he surrounds himself with top advisers. I would like to KNOW the advisers are that he picks though : ) so far his spiritual advisers haven’t forwarded his cause much and unfortunately reflect views that may/may not be his own.

Sent my two cents in via your link, thanks for providing it. I’ll forward via e-mail to pals. There’s no reason for our dependency on ME oil and I don’t care who’s in office.
