The ‘Bradley Effect’: Could Obama be next?
Posted by michellemoquin on August 20th, 2008
Hi Joe: Thanks for the visit and for commenting. And thanks for the hat tip - here and on your blog! You bring up a very good point and another reason for not getting lax when it comes to getting Obama into the White House: The “Bradley Effect’. In fact your mention of it has inspired my blog write today, so thank you. Might as well continue with this subject since it is of utmost importance.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
So what is the ‘Bradley Effect’? I didn’t know up until recently. But it all started in 1982 when a long-time African-American Mayor of Los Angeles, Tom Bradley was running for Governor of California. On the eve of the election, he was so far ahead than his white Republican opponent, that the newspapers printed, “Bradley Wins!’ Oops…he lost by 50,000 votes! It just so happens that all of those voters who said they were going to vote for him at the last minute….yep while they were in the booth, they changed their minds. The “Bradley Effect’ was born.
And it happened again in 1989 when Douglas Wilder, the Democratic black Lieutenant- Governor of Virginia ran for Governor. He was 9 points ahead of his opponent white republican Marshall Coleman, throughout the entire race. And guess what? On election day Wilder didn’t loose but he didn’t win by 9 points either; he squeaked by, winning by just a half a point.
And speaking of squeaking by….in the same year, African-American Democrat David Dinkins looked like he had it made when it came to becoming the Mayor of New York - He was in the lead by 18 points. But once again, on election day, he beat white Republican Rudy Gouliani by only 2 points - another too close for comfort tally.
And lastly, In 1990, African-American Democrat Harvey Gantt ran against white Republican Jesse Helms for a North Carolina Senate seat. Once again Gantt who was ahead throughout the race, was predicted to win by 4-6 points. Oops the ‘Bradley Effect’ came into play and he lost to Helms by six.
Do you see how this could be relevant to this election? Obama like Ghantt, is predicted to win by a 4-6 point lead. Scary thought but could history repeat itself at the polls for Obama?
So why does this happen when it comes down to blacks running against whites? Could it be as simple as a racial issue? Maybe. But why does it suddenly show up the day of the election results? Well…it is said that many may lie about who they support to hide their true racist feelings. But in actuality most intended to vote for the black candidate but ‘freaked out’ the day of the election and swung to the other side, so to speak. Could this be true or just another excuse to hide racism? I mean what is there to ‘freak out’ about? Like white men have done such an exemplary job in all areas of politics. But, it happens….they supposedly begin to feel nervous and think such thoughts as, ‘Is he competent enough?’ ‘Does he have enough experience?’ (Again, racist thoughts cloaked as concerns?) Hell, I’m ready for someone with a little less experience - I have seen what ‘experience’ has done. I am ready for a little creativity, a little ingenuity. Obama has those qualities. But when fear and doubt (and racism) rise, in the past they’ve picked the ‘known white guy’.
Voting patterns from past presidential elections have shown that based on a 6-point lead Obama would win over McCain. That is if you assume race doesn’t matter. Unfortunately it does. Many white liberals say that we are ‘beyond race.’ But let’s get real here, it is still out there and we can’t deny or ignore the simple fact that race is still an issue in our world and will be at the polls too. Historically, black candidates going for white top governing positions always score 9-16 points lower than the pre-election polls say they will.
Like I said peeps, the fight isn’t over.
Hi ZL: Love the story with ‘bandana boy’. Amen on the amendment…’Don’t even think about it… or else!’
Hi Janet: At first I thought you were talking about a black hole (?) but no, it was something entirely different. How interesting and exciting….looking forward to seeing that myself.
As far as sisterhood - I’m with you on that…If time allows and you still feel like revisiting I do not think there would be a problem in ‘looking in’.
Hello Leitha: The diversity of beings and planets out there never cease to amaze me. What are worthless rocks on one planet are diamonds to earthlings…what is pollution to earthlings is life sustaining food for another. How creative the gods are.
Gratefully your blog host,
It could also be that some of the people who said they supported these Black candidates were actually just supporting them because they were Black. It’s an easy way to avoid ethno-guiltism and claims of racism. When they got in the voting booth, they voted on issues instead of melanin.
I have to ask how many of the White progressives who so vocally support Obama are doing so because it SHOWS that they’re not racist. I wonder about this because it seems to be those White progressive supporters, not the Black supporters, who are the first and loudest people to claim racism when someone says something derogatory about Obama.
Hi Mischa,
Interesting story, forgot about this B effect actually…
Jonolan above has a point, I have seen this type of reverse racism in action also, but it comes off obvious and I’m not sure that’s what’s going on here w/Obama.
I heard the ‘not enough experience’ thing this weekend, personally I think less experienced, not bought and paid for with the right advisors, etc…will work just fine or even better than our more experienced ‘men’ - please…
Obama was on Ellen the other day when I flashed on for a sec, I never watch TV during the day so not sure how this happened (oh, maybe scanning for an olympic event) and I think people and men in particular are scared of him bc the man has some good dance moves also : ) just having some fun, I’ve said my piece re: this election. I intend to keep saying out loud to others, do not let bad press and racist bs get in your way, would you rather have another 4 yrs of same same?! Are you mad???
I love hearing about the girls in space, the stories make me want to go take a 2-3 month sabbatical and check it out myself, let a cyborg handle my life stuff for a minute : )
Today is Wednesday and in honor of that I wrote ‘Wednesday’s three legged stool or is it four?’ http://www.lilliandevin.com/ it’s for all the sweet pea’s and sweetnesses out there ; )
You sound like my husband. At home he was a virulent racist. When in public he would be articulately cautious so as to imply that he had an open mine on the issue of race.
He thought that he was clever enough to leave subtle hints that any candidate other than a white man was not quite qualified. Hence your statement “When they got in the voting booth, they voted on issues instead of melanin.” Your ’subtle’ implication being that only a white man could have the issues that would be supportable. Ergo if one voted for the white man he voted issues if he voted for the candidate of a different color he voted melanin.
You could have been subtler, but occasionally that penis envy gets the best of you and you slip. The term ‘conservative” when used by you Nazi wannabes has the same meaning as you are using when you use the term ‘white progressives.’ As if only a “white progressive’ would support Obama because as a black man he could not possibly have anything over white McCain.
Saying something negative about Obama is not the issue. Everyone has a difference of opinion and issues that matter more than others. I respect the religious fanatics for supporting McCain because he supports their main issue to make abortion illegal. That is not racist, it is their issue.
You on the other hand espouse the premise that because Obama is black, he does not have the experience to be President of the US. Sure you use your intellectual skills to cloud it in language that implies it is issue oriented. But it is pure penis envy gone wild.
If you can be honest for a moment, then answer us here on this blog what about McCain that issue wise is better for the American people than Obama.
Speak to us about his foreign policy issues, and his economic issues. Leave out the pseudo-philosophy of “ethno-guiltism” and white progressives.” These are but veiled racist implications of the white man suffering from the fact that he thinks God gave him such a little penis.
Spout as much as you wish, we white mothers, sisters, cousins, friends, and wives know what you are suffering from. White men who are not in your category can appreciate contributions from all peoples regardless of race or sex. They are neither gender nor race apologists. They are fellow members of the human race without pretensions of race grandeur.
I would say that if we could eliminate everything we know, start over, with everyone not being able to see(to be blind), and take the actions, characters, speeches, voting records and such of each candidate I am unable to find how McCain can stand to Obama. The lies and deception that he expels continuously, as well as, the Repugnicant party and friends would be able to be parsed if people were not blindsided by the sight of an old white guy!
The fact that societies comfort level of some old white guy…again…thinking that things will change is amazing to me. Our society, or shall I say, the power in our society, holds that an old white guy knows more, cares more, and can handle more than a black man or woman, white woman , gay person or any other mix has gotten to be quite antiquated in thought, as well as result.
I am reading, as I reported yesterday in my blog ( http://bdgroupllc.blogspot.com ) “The Prosecution of George W Bush for Murder” by Vincent Bugliosi. He is the greatest prosecuting attorney of our time. He is also the author of “Helter Skelter” and prosecutor who is responsible for the conviction of Charles Manson. His discussion and preamble to the prosecution of Bush for murder is taking the country by storm. This should begin to shake up the elite, as well as the commoners, to know that there is no hiding. No matter who you are. There is power to the people the way our country is designed, but the people need to know that it is the power of the people and not the power of the President that should be running this country. The people need to take back the power. McCain is NOT the way to accomplish this.
It has only been recently that McCant has been spouting that he disagrees with Bush and his war policies and that we should get out of Iraq, albeit not until we have won. Although, it has been over 1000 days since there was a declaration of winning in Iraq by this Administration…McCant has stated that he thought we would be in Iraq for another 100 years, that is until he realized how that was going in the polls and changed his story. He also publicly stated how he is not the best person to ask financial questions to…my God, man, you are to be running the largest and most corrupt company in the world!?…
We are in a national, if not a global financial crisis, that is largely created through the gross negligence and mishandling of our nations policies and the turning away of our own country’s infrastructure and policy needs. The same party that spouts that jobs are going offshore and need to come back has taken our country’s money and people and sent them by the thousands to Iraq to destroy and subsequently rebuild a foreign country. This action has taken a $1 Trillion out of our own economic system. (I’ll discuss another time of the fact that the oversight and regulations on most of these funds to these privately held firms is non existent and corrupt, leaving hundreds of billions of dollars out in no man’s land to end up in private offshore accounts. The pandering and pilfering of this administration and friends is criminal on so many respects.) The simple fact that Bush and McCain stand side by side exemplifies in my mind that McCant is simply a co-conspiritor to all of this administrations crimes and its attempts to carry on with their global mayhem.
Thank you Michelle for the posting.
Two things. First, this election will not be like any other. We have just suffered the most devastating presidency in the history of the republic, under the ‘leadership’ of G.W.B. On every front; economic, political, international, health/welfare/education, the environment we continue to hemorrhage badly (and I’m an optimist). Furthermore, it is entirely possible that the dollar will lose it status as ‘reserve’ currency, oil will be sold in Euro’s (and a basket of other currencies) and that China will ascend to the throne of world power, as we descend weighted with GARGANTUAN (corporate, government, personal) debt.
Thus I sincerely believe that people want CHANGE. It’s finally affected their pocket books, and unfortunately for most Americans this is generally ‘the’ catalyst necessary for freeing them from their sofas/bigscreens.
Ironically, it will have taken the reign of an ‘Idiot King (not of color)’ to pave the way for ‘change.’ In this case the change of mindset necessary for a Man-of-Color (melanin) to assume the…Throne/Presidency?
Second point. Voting fraud. It didn’t just start in Florida in 2000 (Ohio 2004). It’s been going on for some time. And the ‘South,’ in particular, is notorious for omitting ‘questionable’ votes. So while I believe that people may, indeed, change their minds on voting day, I also believe that there are other factors afoot, and that in this election there will be more still.
No, Madeline, it wasn’t a racist statement or carrying any racist connotations, except those in your own mind. How else would you describe someone who vocally supported one candidate due to his race, but voted for another candidate? I chose to use the “issue” choice so as not to accuse this supposed group of people of being racist behind closed doors.
Actually, I espouse the idea that because Obama is in his 40s and has only served approximately 6 month in any federal office he is less experienced than McCain. I’m actually still unsure if that inexperience is a totally disqualifying factor since it also comes with a lack a jadedness and preconceptions. Race doesn’t come into play in the issue, except apparently in your own mind. That is not racist, it is an issue.
If you have a blog, we can discuss the finer points of the issues there. There’s no sense in derailing this thread with vitriol and off-topic arguments. I see little point though in discussing my penis. ;)
Zen,
Yes - in the light of the above comment - I have to agree that it usually is quite obvious. I still wonder how much of an effect it is during this election cycle. Like all human behaviors this “reverse racism” runs the gamut of subtle to in-your-face obvious.
Today, I felt what it is like to be physically at ease with yourself. I am a very accomplished person intellectually. I run my own business. It employs 23 people and brings in 31 million dollars a year.
I don’t, rather, I didn’t believe in aliens. I stumbled upon Michelle’s blog and took an instant liking to her personality. She was me on a blog. I also am a big admirer of Zen Lill (love that title). I started reading her column, and found it to so uplifting. I am a tall woman who used to do whatever I could to lessen the appearance of my height. Zen Lill, you gave me the confidence to strut my stuff.
I loved besting men intellectually, but I hated being taller than them. I was also very much aware of my physical limitations when it came to confronting an aggressive male when approached on the street. This was especially true of black men. I had never had a bad experience with one, but that’s just how I felt.
I applied to go into space because i didn’t believe it to be true. Now that I am here, I still think that it may all be a dream. Perhaps I suffered a coma from a severe car accident. God knows that I drive much too fast.
My story: Today i was chosen to lead 11 other girls on a mission to locate a camp for a shuttlecraft mooring. I actually was looking forward to getting off the Vermont. It is the name we gave to one of the larger shuttlecrafts. It is so big that one could load a couple thousand 747’s fully loaded and still have room for 60,000 people on the dust-off floor.
We were deployed in an isolated area of the planet with instructions to avoid inhabitant contact if possible and to secure a region the planet’s active volcano region. This region was occupied occasionally by aliens (Nelees) who used it as an outdoor barbecue. They were hostile to the inhabitants and potential enemies to us. Trish was my second in command and she was against any contact with the Nelees as she believed that we had enough information to assume they were cannibals that dinned on the inhabitants.
We could not be landed directly into the volcanic area because of some agreement made between the Nelees and the Emperor some four or five hundred years ago. So we had to sneak in and establish a camp that could be cloaked. Our orders were to avoid contact if possible, but to establish a base camp even if we met resistance from the Nelees or any other alien to the planet presence.
The natural inhabitants of the planet never ventured into the area because of some superstition. They were close to our 17th century intellectual period, hence no threat to us or any visiting alien group.
Dondi, Trish’s second in command was our chief scout. She discovered that the Nelees had tunneled a parallel shaft along side the molten path of one of the largest volcanos in the area we were settling on. So we had to pack up and relocate.
As we were pulling out, something struck Dondi in the chest. It appeared to be bite of some sort from first glimpse. But my training told me that nothing indigenous to the planet could penetrate her suit. I gave the order for defense maneuvers and offense preparation. The thing is it came so natural. Here I was about to order someone to shoot some one else and I my heart was not even beating hard. It was practically automatic. Like me telling an employee to the specs on a drawing before we made an order on earth.
Dondi’s automatic life safe-guard set in and she was instantly pulled out of her suit. This told me that the perpetrator meant to kill. That required a what we are taught a purposeful encounter with the perp. I took defensive measures that sent eight of my crew into a phlelan arch with Trish in command and employed a counter attack with two other girls.
Long story short - We captured the their point camp without injuries to anyone. During their interrogation we learned that they did not think that their worp( their name for a stun gun) would lethally penetrate our skins. They were looking for a kind of paralysis that the inhabitants suffered when stunned with the worp.
We discovered that they did not dine on the inhabitants rather they used the super heat of the volcano to tenderize vegetation that they harvested on a molten coreless planet. The heat tenderized the vegetation and the lava preserved them like baggies.
They agreed to share the volcanic region if we would agree to help them defend themselves from encroaching alien miners. We did.
When i returned to the Vermont everybody was watching the film of our operation and congratulating me on a job well done. My chief concern was for Dondi, but when I learned that she was just fine. I could appreciate what I had done.
The story was short but it took us nine hours to subdue the scared Nelees before we arrived at the happy ending. Their was firing, counter firing, and even some hand to hand. If you could call what the six armed Nelees had at the end of their arms hands. We overcame superior odds on unfamiliar terrain to win the day.
I am so proud of me. Me a big woman who was so afraid to go out at night alone. When I return home I am looking forward to traversing the streets of New York by myself. I am so happy to be here. I wouldn’t mind it if we couldn’t make it back.
Jonolan it is very telling that you tell me that you see no sense in discussing your penis size while you feel free to discuss “reverse racism” with Zen Lill in the very next paragraph.
Let me understand you better. Your pseudo-psycological discussion of “reverse racism” is by your evaluation better than my pseudo-psycological discussion of “penis envy.”
I beg to disagree. Google it. You might find that it has a greater scientific weight than your “reverse racism” crap. It has certainly been around longer. This “reverse racism” is a recently made up concept to justify not using affirmative action to give the OTWs (other than white) races in this country an opportunity to make up for the affirmative action that was given to the white males for the first two hundred years in this country. Reverse racism as a scientific term is bogus. You know it and I know it.
On the other hand “penis envy” is a well proven neurosis. The Germans have the smallest penises in Europe and have been the most racist group on the planet. So don’t feel too bad, you are in good company. The former is not my opinion. It is the scientific opinion of a study done by European scientists. Evidently some of the best scientific minds felt that penis size was worth studying as a cause of racist aggression. The need to exterminate the male competition seems to spring from feelings of inadequacy in the mating department. So say the scientist. Don’t get angry with me, take it up with the scientist most of who are white males.
The only studies you can find to legitimize your use of the made up concept of “reverse racism” is in American white males’ attempts to give scientific accreditation to an endeavor to justify not attempting to put right what was done to the OTWs by pervasive, dictatorial and terrorizing government power of a white male controlled institution of racism.
So here you stand proudly claiming “reverse racism” as a justification for what you perceive as illogical. Surely if some whites can see racism where you can see none, then certainly they must be suffering from your pseudo-scientiic theory of “reverse racism.”
Jonolan, you are so transparent. At least my husband was honest at home. I’ll bet you keep your “Im-no-bigot” face on there too. Not that it has fooled anyone who knows you or is familiar with the racist propaganda that you regularly run on your blog. I would have commented there were it not for your insistence that I include my email address. You nazi types need to know who disagrees with you so desperately.
Oh I can hear you defend the requirement as if you are one of those people who have an honest reason for the need to require the person leave an email address before she/he can post a comment. You are not one of those persons Jonolan. Hence, you will have to be content to answer me here.
Now where was i? I was quoting you: “Actually, I espouse the idea that because Obama is in his 40s and has only served approximately 6 month in any federal office he is less experienced than McCain.”
Okay since you brought up age, I guess it is appropriate that we discuss age. McCain is 70 years old for gods sake. Enough said. Don’t even mention Regean
That guy ran the most corrupt presidential office before our present bush. To date his tenure holds the record for the most prosecutions of the executive branch in government history. It was under his watch that we had a crooked colonel attempting to make governmental policy for a few dollars more. Does the name Ollie North come to mind?
Let’s not get off the subject. We are discussing your claim that McClain is more qualified to be President. Yes Obama has less experience than McCain if you mean gathering money from the most influence peddling and selling lobbyists in Washington.
It is so disingenuous for you to say that when MdCain is supporting Georgia without telling the American people that the man he chose to speak to them through the press has accepted more that $800,000 from the country as a paid consultant.
The same is true for McCain in his oil policy, (big contributions after from big oil after suggesting offshore drilling) banking policy( his chief adviser is responsible for deregulating the banking industry for a profit); his advisers that have deregulated the speculation in the oil markets, the list just goes on.
If McCain isn’t a crook, then the expression “tell me who you run with and I’ll tell you who you are” is grossly overstated.
You accept all this and more from McClain because he is white. If Obama had any of this stink attached to him, you would be so smugly saying that you were just against him because of his associations.
As for age and lack of federal experience, let me point out that President Clinton was younger and with less federal experience. All he did was balance a budget that the first bush had driven up and left the second bush with a TRILLION dollar surplus.
Today that bush has ruined the constitution as we knew it and not only spent the trillion dollars but has managed to run up a trillion dollar deficit for Obama to tackle.
You publish racist trash on your blog to tear down and slander Obama. You knowing support the books and authors of those books that are strewn with obvious lies. He just happens to be black so that is a convenient angle for you to attack.
The reason you have to discuss anything but the real issues like foreign policy and the economy is that you and your party don’t have a leg to stand on. It is all smoke and mirrors. Like the we need more offshore drilling. When you and I both know that that will do nothing to seriously help in the long or short run.
If you don’t want to make “a racist statement or carrying any racist connotations,” then don’t make any. Issues will suffice.
Your reply to my request that you tell me issues that McCain had that were better for the American people that Obama’s was what the McCain and the rest of the republican party does, you immediately began attacking the man.
WHAT ABOUT THE ISSUES?
Are you so worried that your candidate has none that you instinctively attack the man rather than attempt to pose a counter issue? McCain is bought and paid for by special interest. He is just going to propose another bush term with more of the same.
You and your party’s only hope is to play the race card. The fact that you have worked up an ingenious way to play it does not fool anyone. You on the right know what you are doing and you can call it “reverse racism”, “white progressives”, “whiteman’s backlash,’ whatever, everyone knows what you are attempting.
We Americans and those countries of the free world that truly put hope and the planet first know what you are about. This time we will defeat you.
Perhaps you should read Some of Zen Lill’s and Michelle’s earlier blog entries. I think that you will find that the word is out on your crooked republican party.
IS ARSENIC-LACED CHICKEN ON YOUR MENU TONIGHT?
You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to be aware that arsenic is highly poisonous to humans. So it seemed strange to learn that as of 2002, approximately 70% of the chicken we bought in this country was raised on feed treated with an arsenic-based additive called roxarsone. Back in the 1950s, when it was first used to kill parasites, promote growth and improve pigmentation in chicken, roxarsone was considered benign — at least in its original organic form. The truth is, by any name or form, arsenic compounds are still worrisome — even the organic forms are transformed, in soils or in the human body, to cancer-causing inorganic arsenic. Given the new science, no arsenic should be considered safe — especially that given needlessly to chickens.
To learn more about the issues involved with arsenic in chicken, I spoke with David Wallinga, MD, MPA, Director of the Food and Health Program at the non-profit Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy. He told me that in response to rising health concerns, major companies such as Tyson (the nation’s largest poultry producer) have already or are now voluntarily phasing out use of roxarsone in feed. Unfortunately, Dr. Wallinga also told me this remains a case of “buyer beware.” There is no law against using arsenic-based additives and no mechanism in place to detect their presence in the roast chicken you place on the family dinner table or the nuggets you grab for lunch at the local fast food restaurant. We talked more about the hazards of arsenic exposure, and how you can best safeguard yourself and your family.
TOXIC EXPOSURE = TOXIC CONSEQUENCES
It’s time to leave the 1950s behind and apply 21st-century science to the issue of arsenic in the food we eat, says Dr. Wallinga. We now know that the so-called “harmless” original organic form of roxarsone is rapidly converted into inorganic arsenic by bacteria found in soils, in animals and humans, making it toxic. We also know that even low-level exposure to inorganic arsenic can result in partial paralysis and diabetes. Long-term exposure can cause bladder, lung, skin, kidney and colon cancer, as well as neurological, endocrine and immune system disturbances. Over time, many of these compounds can be lethal.
Arsenic compounds in chicken feed contribute to arsenic exposure in humans in three ways:
• Eating meat from chickens that have been fed arsenic-containing feed.
• Chicken excretions that contaminate land and groundwater.
• Chicken litter that is made into fertilizer for lawns and gardens.
HOW TO STAY SAFE
Growing awareness of the health risks associated with arsenic may eventually bring about stricter government regulation of arsenic-based additives in feed, and Dr. Wallinga believes that this is the best path to follow. He hopes the law will change, making it illegal to use arsenic-based additives in animal feed while putting in place a system to monitor and enforce this policy. He adds that arsenic-based additives are not only hazardous to your health, but also patently unnecessary. They have never been used in chicken feed in Europe, for example, and Europeans eat lots of chicken. So why take a chance with them in this country?
In the meantime, you can take charge on a personal level. Any certified organic chicken is by law arsenic-free. You can also check with the supplier of your favorite brand of chicken as to whether or not it uses roxarsone. As I mentioned earlier, a growing number of food producers are voluntarily refraining from its use, and even fast food giant McDonald’s has gotten on board by requesting that its suppliers no longer use arsenic compounds — although it is unclear how aggressively they follow up. Independent testing showed that there was still arsenic in McDonald’s chicken in 2006, after the company announced its new policy, underlining the need for stricter government regulation and enforcement.
Jonolan, maybe to you (being a male) the ‘reverse racism’ runs the gamut between ’subtle’ and obvious, but as a woman, and one that is fairly well trained in the fine art of body language inc eye movement, etc…I would say that I listen and watch for nuanced signs/word usage when spotting a bigot/racist, or any ‘-ist’ person, of course given the family I was raised in, well, let’s just say I received ample training there also.
You cannot bs our Maddie, now can you? Not without back up documentation, I love her for that, no fluff allowed or your ass is grass, hahaha…checked out your site briefly, will get back and check out your racist ways later ; ) sorry, but that Chinese baby caught my eye, I want to hold that kid (and then give her back to her mama) : )
Elaine, such an absorbing story…thanks for that.
I’m so glad you find my blog entries ‘uplifting’ bc that’s what I live for : ) and the fact that it has managed to get another fine tall woman to stand up and strut, well that pleases me, too, although I think I’m more of a glider myself…I’ve walked ‘bad’ neighborhoods at night and never had an issue, though I may be lax in my self protective thinking, I think it’s more that I almost always walk with purpose and that conveys a certain sense of authority (possibly this is a strut?), something I think is afforded to tall people just generally speaking. I also greet big black men the same way I would anyone else, just cause they’re walking towards me doesn’t mean they mean me harm.
I’ve been meaning to blog about the pyschological aspects of height, how others perceive you and grant you certain liberties bc of it. I’ve always found that interesting, you know, being a tall one you get to notice this phenomena up close and personal. Maybe I’ll get to it, so much to write about, so little time and for a time it’ll be about helping our sisters around the world. Mischa has given me permission to use some of her recent rants, get out the ‘women’s’ word to my audience that is not originated from here. Thanks for making my day with your compliment. Oh and short or tall I love a good intelligent debate with males and females, the physicality/sex makes no matter to me…
Viv, welcome, is Tal aboard a spacecraft with the new girls or where’d he go? And where do you stay and what do you eat while visiting earth?
Mischa, let’s go check out the wonders of mother nature sometime soon, please?
ciao ciao for now now, Zen
Quickly this morning, Jonolan, went back and read your political entries, several of them. It’s not a suggestion but a ‘please, please’ go back and reading the above mentioned at my blog starting July 12, there were a few previous entries fr a ‘Bill Clinton’ repub, think that’s the copied version on July 12. Don’t be or don’t stay a racist, you can change that. Maybe you could stop reading that Boldredconservative blog also, he’s a Reaganite windbag. I get all those RSS feeds from liberal and conservative sources, bc I’m an indie I like to hear the fuel the parties like to throw at each other, that book about Obama is repugnican propaganda, maybe Hillary was involved but methinks not…
